Darwin Weather Charts

  • Thunderstorm Potential

    Thunderstorm Potential

An index using a combination of outputs to determine areas where thunderstorms are possible, likely, or potentially severe.

  • Accumulated Precipitation (Rainfall)
  • MSLP and Rain

    MSLP and Rain

Mean Sea Level Pressure weather map in hectopascals (hPa) along with rainfall accumulation in millimetres forecast for the 3 hours up to chart time.

  • 2m Temperature

    Temperature

Air temperature in degrees Celsius at the surface layer, which is representative of the temperature a person may experience outdoors.

  • 10m Winds and Streamlines

    Winds and Streamlines

A measure of the average air speed in knots. 10 metres is used as it's just above local interference from structures and trees. Streamlines show the origins of that air mass.

  • Lifted Index

    Lifted Index

A measure of atmospheric instability which indicates where thunderstorms may develop. The lower the negative number the greater the instability and possibility of thunderstorms.

  • CAPE

    CAPE

Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) is a measure of instability. Higher values, particularly over 1000 indicate greater potential for thunderstorms or severe thunderstorms to develop.
